Elevated road section over forest

Part of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Report

It’s a sight rare in infrastructure development: A 6-lane highway that heals rather than divides a forest.

The final stretch of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway features Asia’s longest elevated wildlife corridor (12 km) passing through the eco-sensitive zone of Rajaji National Park.

The Conflict

For decades, the existing highway through the Shivaliks was a death trap for wildlife. Elephants and leopards crossing the road were frequently hit by speeding traffic. It also caused massive bottlenecks as traffic slowed down for animal crossings.

The Solution: Go High

The solution was simple but expensive: Lift the entire road into the air.

  • Height: The road is elevated on pillars, leaving the forest floor completely untouched.
  • Freedom: Elephants, tigers, and deer can migrate freely under the highway without ever encountering a car.
  • Sound & Light:
    • Noise Barriers: Special walls dampen the sound of traffic to prevent disturbing the animals.
    • Yellow Lights: To avoid confusing nocturnal insects and birds.

The Drive

For the commuter, this will be one of the most scenic drives in India. You will be driving at canopy level, flanked by the Shivalik hills and the Sal forests. It turns the commute into a safari.

Why This Matters for Real Estate?

It’s a massive "Livability" upgrade. Accessing Dehradun doesn't just become faster; it becomes beautiful. This "Arrival Experience" adds a premium to the destination brand of Dehradun.
